I’ve spent the last decade designing spaces that bring people together—front yards, shared courtyards, community hubs, and homes that make connection easier, not harder.
As both an architect and community builder, I care deeply about how physical space shapes our relationships. My upcoming TEDx talk is all about this: how small changes to our neighborhoods can spark big shifts in belonging and resilience.
4️⃣ Daily Email Prompts

"People used to gather more but today, that sense of connection feels lost."
“I’ve waved for years. I still don’t know their name.”
“I miss the shared food, the songs, the community I used to feel.”
“When the storm hit, I realized… I didn’t know who to check on.”
“My kid just wants to play outside with someone. Anyone!”
“I just need to borrow a lawnmower sometimes. Why does it feel weird?”
“I feel so community-oriented.. Why don’t we know our neighbors?”

Let’s be real—most of us live in tension. One part craves solitude, the other longs for connection. We want to build community, but sometimes we hesitate, unsure where to start or afraid we’ll get it wrong.
You’re not alone. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, too busy, or a little awkward about reaching out. But this isn’t about perfection—it’s about small, meaningful steps. About showing up as you are, not as some idealized version of yourself.

What’s the time commitment?
The full program runs over 4 weeks, with about 1–3 hours per week of time. That includes one group Zoom call per week (~60 mins), participating in the group chat, doing a bit of planning, and hosting your small neighborhood action (which could be as simple as setting out coffee and a sign!).
Can I do this with a friend/housemate/partner?
Yes, please! We love co-conspirators. You're welcome to participate solo or team up with someone in your household or neighborhood. Just let us know in your application so we can plan accordingly.
When does it start?
The pilot kicks off end-of-April with a live intro workshop, and wraps up end of May, just in time to help inform Barron’s TEDx talk!
When does it cost?
Nothing! This first round is totally free. In exchange, we’ll ask for your feedback via a short survey and optional 1:1 interview. Your insights may help shape the final toolkit and TEDx talk.
Will my story be shared publicly?
Maybe—with your permission. Some stories, quotes, or images may be included in Barron’s TEDx talk, the downloadable toolkit, or future outreach. We’ll always check with you first and respect your boundaries.
Where does this take place?
Wherever you live! This is about building community on your own block, courtyard, street, or building. All support calls and coaching happen online.
Is there homework?
Not in the boring sense. But yes, there will be small, joyful action steps to take each week—like choosing a connection project, inviting a few neighbors, and reflecting on what you learn. You’ll never be alone in the process.
What kind of projects will we do?
It’s up to you! You might: Set out a “Coffee + Croissants” sign on a weekend morning. Host a sidewalk chalk party. Create a skill-swap or tool share sign-up. Invite neighbors for a front yard dinner, story night, or plant exchange We’ll give you tons of ideas and templates—your energy, time, and vibe will guide the rest.
What kind of support will I get?
You’ll get: A detailed toolkit full of ideas, prompts, and printable signs. Weekly Zoom gatherings with your cohort. Ongoing support via group chat. A celebration + reflection call at the end. Cheerleading, accountability, and real people walking the path with you.
Do I need to be experienced in facilitation or community work?
Nope! All you need is the desire to connect. Whether you’ve led retreats or just waved at neighbors from a distance, you’re welcome here.
